HomeGating: The (Healthy) Answer to Game Day Munchies

First there was peanut butter and jelly. Then there was Kobe and Shaq. When two entities go well together, it makes you wonder how they ever functioned separately. The same goes for sports and food. The success of their pairing is not obvious, but just like Reese’s delectable and life-changing combination of chocolate and peanut butter, the results are astounding and leave you yearning for more. Daina Falk of The Hungry Fan is helping to highlight this pairing with her concept of bringing tailgating to your living room — HomeGating.

What is HomeGating?

Like most things that end in “gate,” a HomeGate is momentous. Get it? But, really, HomeGating is a culinary rebel, forever changing our approach to food preparation in the sports world. Most people don’t put much effort into meal plans for game watching. All a person needs for a successful tailgate are some beers, weiners and a working grill. At least that seems to be the unwritten motto. But, food, like sports, is an art. And, since we are what we eat, it just makes sense to use delicious, healthy and visually enticing recipes for your next event. Enter HomeGating a.k.a. a sports fan’s/foodie’s nirvana. Instead of serving bland chips and salsa, Daina recommends making some flavorful yet waist-slimming guacamole. The best part is that, if your team loses, there will be at least one highlight of the day — yummy and healthy food.
