We’re stoked about the Super Bowl this year, it’s in our turf! Now, we know it’s still going to be chilly come February 2, but we’re not going to let the weather get to us! While the MetLife Stadium is set to be packed with numerous activities leading up to the game, we say make your own tailgating extravaganza at home!
This year’s Super Bowl will restrict the tailgating experience at the stadium parking lot, but that’s not going to stop any of us at home from getting our food on. Take a look at what we’ve got in mind – below!
What to Serve?
We know the game is the star of the show, but we’ll need a happy tummy too! Serve finger foods that are easy to bite into – what’s better than tacos? We love Dorado Tacos and Quesadillas for their innovative approach to Mexican street food, where everything they put on a plate is made from scratch! Get your taco on during the game with their “Taco Feasts” – which includes everything you will need to make 2 tacos per person. Yes, chips too! If you want to go the cleaner route, they’ve got yummy vegetarian and gluten-free options too, so nobody gets left behind!
What’s a tailgating party without a hearty serving of meat? While we love the classic pulled pork sandwiches, go with Fun Buns NYC instead! Just think of a hot Taiwanese bun, with pork belly slow braised with Taiwanese Five Spices – we’re salivating already! If pork isn’t your thing, go with the beef shank – stewed with star of anise, cinnamon, clove and spices. Believe us when we say, it doesn’t get any more satisfying than this!
You didn’t think we would make a list and not include Pigs in a Blanket, did you? Real Simple Recipes has a quick and easy recipe to follow – all you need is half an hour!
There’s no way anyone will be sitting in front of the TV, and not crave chips and dips! The combination of spinach, cream and parmesan cheese will convert any Non-Veggie Individuals, and it’s really easy to make! This is the perfect opportunity to grab a friend, and get them to help out in the kitchen. You can find the yummy recipe here.
What to Drink?
What’s the best drink to go with all that food? Stock up on the beer (and other carbonated drinks and juices for friends who don’t drink!), and remember to get lots of ice! To add to the feel of a tailgating party, place the drinks in coolers and buckets in strategic spots around the TV area, so guests won’t have to travel all the way to the kitchen for the next refill.
What about those who don’t really favour beer? Wash all that good food down with the Cajun Lemonade! All you need is rum, frozen lemonade concentrate, club soda and hot sauce. You read right – it’s the extra kick your guests won’t expect! Remember to go easy with the hot sauce – too much, and there will be a line for the bathroom.
We suggest a buffet table, placed a little further away from the TV area – we want you to enjoy the game too, and not have to clean up after everyone else! If you’re keen on plastic cups and plates for that tailgating vibe, don’t forget to get something that isn’t too flimsy or someone’s spinach dip will definitely make a mark on your floor. Also, don’t forget to make napkins readily available – emotions will be running high at some point, and drinks will be spilled!
Make sure you have enough seats in front of the TV! Get friends to bring over some soft chairs, or place cushions on the floor so everyone can get comfortable. Place chips in a few bowls around the seating area – someone’s bound to hog all the snacks! Want something extra flavorful? Go with Spicy Party Nuts – we guarantee your guests will be fighting over them!
Don’t forget to check in with us as we list the fun activities and games during halftime, next!
