We just can’t stay away from Game of Thrones! We’re all pumped for the new season, airing this April 6, and we just know one post about Game of Thrones is not enough. We know some of you are just as excited as we are, so we’ve got a two-part GoT special, on how to host the best Game of Thrones viewing party ever! Scroll on for our first part special, with fun elements to create a GoT-tastic party atmosphere. Scratch the icy Winter, Summer is Coming.
Game of Thrones-inspired Stationery
If you hurry, you still have time to mail the invites to your GoT viewing party! Yes, we meant mail, stamps and all. If bird mail is too cumbersome for you, we suggest using GoT-inspired stationery to print out your menu for the night, or fun facts about GoT non-readers may not know about! Try using tea-stained printer paper, and burn the sides so you can an authentic feel. Get your template here.
Dress Like You’re on a GoT Set
There’s no way it can truly feel like a GoT viewing party, if no one dresses up! So we understand costumes are expensive, and not many of us are committed to Cosplaying, so we’ve got a great alternative for you. It’s all about the attitude!
if your favorite character is the witty Tyrion Lannister, all you will need is a burgundy-hued long-sleeved shirt and a vest. Match with black pants, and boots. Don’t forget about the scar! Someone’s bound to play excited makeup artist, so let them paint it on your face!
So if you’re not into resembling humans, and going as a King Joffrey is out of the question, why don’t you dress up as a White Walker? You’re gonna need a skeleton-print shirt (or pajamas), some white face-paint and if you’re committing, a white wig. Carry a toy sword, and make one out of twigs. We’re all for gender-friendly, DIY costumes! For more costume ideas, click here.
Ladies (and Long-Haired Gents!), It’s All About the Hair
No matter which family we support, we can all agree the ladies of GoT have amazing hairstyles. For those fortunate enough, here are some hairstyles you can emulate. Get a friend to help out, before the show starts! There’s no way you can have a GoT party and not include Cersei Lannister, walking around with a deep-red long gown and cutting people down to size with her severe tongue! Get her hair, below.
If Cersei is too scary for you, what about going to the party as the Mother of Dragons? Daenerys Targaryen is going to have an even bigger journey ahead of her this new season, so wear your hair up like Mommy Dragon and if possible, find a toy dragon to place next to you. No one’s gonna mess with you, we promise.
Westeros Serves Popcorn, Right?
It isn’t a viewing party or marathon if there isn’t any popcorn, period. Have guests reveal their true colors, and see which house they root for. Is it Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen or Stark (they need as much help as they can get!)? Choose your preferred images of the biggest families in the GoT world, and get to work! It’s really easy to make, check it out here.
What’s a Goodie Bag, Without Vital Organs?
Who doesn’t love goodie bags to bring home? If you’re really about The Best Game of Thrones Viewing Party Ever, have your guests receive their goodies as they arrive in your party space! You don’t have to spend a fortune, you’ll only need brown paper bags and printed materials for GoT branding. Feeling crafty? Make a stencil, and fill it in with a sharpie! For serious party planners, get more information here.
What’s the best thing to put inside a brown paper bag? It’ll have to be the World’s Largest Gummy Heart! This might bring back memories of the Red Wedding, and Stark loyalists might be upset but this sugary sweet treat is so eat-your-heart-out good! It’s lifelike details may put you off, but we promise the cherry flavor will have you finish off this Gummy Heart! You’ll be a Lannister in no time.
Remember, anyone can put a viewing party together! It’s all about the elements of the Game of Thrones theme which will set your party apart from the rest. Check back with us, as we delve deeper into the world of GoT, for scrumptious food and drink!
