We can’t get enough of music this summer, and neither should you. Before you overwhelm yourself with multiple lists of the hottest acts to catch, let us help you! We break down six of our most anticipated shows for the month of July, without having to spend a single dime (Psst: Wanna win free tickets for some of the shows?).
Seriously, you guys. We live in The Best City Ever. Read on for Fiestah’s concert picks!
On The Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay Z
No concert list is complete without a Bey x Jay’s ‘On The Run’ tour! Stadium only status, this time at the MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, this July 11 and 12. We’ve sneaked previews of the show on social media so far, and it looks amazing. But did you doubt, though? #BowDown
There’s still time to purchase tickets here! If not, try your luck at winning tickets via HipHopDX. The contest ends July 10, so get your tweeting on! Full instructions here.
Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival at 50 Kent Ave Brooklyn
The city’s largest Hip-Hop festival is back to celebrate all things Brooklyn and hip-hop culture! This year marks the festival’s 10th anniversary, this year’s final day promises a full day’s worth of performances, on top of a grand finale on July 12! Headliners include Jay Electronica, Cyhi the Prynce, CJ Fly of Pro Era, DJ Rob Swift and of course, Staten Island’s very own Raekwon The Chef (If we need to tell you about Wu-Tang, man…).
We’ve been obsessed with Brit electronic artist Bonobo since his stellar release ‘Black Sands’ (Peep the video above, for a quick look into his genius. Shout out to the amazing vocalist, Szjerdene!). If you’re down for a hypnotic and soulful experience, head on down to Rumsey Playfield, Central Park this Sunday, July 13. Did we mention the show is FREE?
It starts from 6:00PM onwards, so get there early before the venue fills up! You also get to hang with New York’s indie pop/rock/trip-hop Japanese duo, Cibo Matto. Get a taste of their ‘Sugar Water’ here! (Of course we’re obsessed! They love food as much as we do!)
Another free concert, courtesy of SummerStage takes place this July 17, Thursday. We’re stoked about this infamous hip-hop duo’s show at Queensbridge Park, from 7:00PM onwards. If you’re not familiar with Mobb Depp, then let Shook Ones Pt II change your life.
José González at Damrosch Park
If you’re in the mood for something quieter, then head on down to Damrosch Park to see Swedish singer-songwriter José González in action. Never heard of him? He recently appeared on the soundtrack of ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’. He also made a cover worthy of the original, Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’!
He’ll play a free set, as part of the Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors festival, with all new music arrangements. It will be gorgeous (and date-worthy)! Get more info here.
Snarky Puppy at the R&B Festival
We dare you to click the video above, and not marvel or groove along to this breakout collaboration with master vocalist Lalah Hathaway (She’s not Donny Hathaway’s daughter for nothing)!Taken from their live DVD/CD ‘Family Dinner – Volume One’, Snarky Puppy is a jazz-funk ochestra led by bassist Michael League. Seriously, if we could a copy for every person in the city, we totally would! We’re talking breathtaking instrumentals, the kind of innovation jazz totally needs today.
What we can give you are details to their free concert on Thursday, July 31. It starts at 12:00PM at the MetroTech Commons, so you definitely do not want to miss this! Click here for more information.
