It’s the holiday weekend, and we bet half of you are up to your ears with food, sweets and lots of leftovers! If you’re itching for more than an interrogation at a relative’s house, or for a quick break from pies, we’ve got a few alternative activities you can enjoy instead.
Make the most of your long weekend, after the cut!
Marina Abramovic, Generator
We’re so into the performance art by Marina Abramovic, and you should be too! While she will not appear in her latest piece, this immersive experience will see visitors don blindfolds and noise canceling headphones. Visitors will enter and feel their way around the Sean Kelly Gallery, until they signal to leave. Reactions can be found via this tumblr. Be part of the performance this Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 from 11:00am onwards!
Saved By The ’90s: A Party with the Bayside Tigers
Ain’t no party like a ’90s party! The Bayside Tigers are an awesome four-piece cover band with a kick ass list of ’90s cover songs of all genres, with the promise to bring the house down at Le Poisson Rouge, this Friday night (November 28)! Don’t forget to dress up in your best ’90s gear, it is a theme party after all. Also, be ready for anyone to show up at this Friday night dance party. Naughty by Nature, Screech from Saved by the Bell and Aaron Carter (Yes!) have made an appearance before! Full info here.
Brooklyn Pop Up Holiday Market
Ate too much at Thanksgiving dinner, and you’re not up to participate in the potential horrors of Black Friday? Head on down to Bushwick for the Brooklyn Pop Up Holiday Market and get your holiday shopping on! We love all the handmade, one-of-kind quality pieces from the vendors such as leather journals, organic goods and even vegan chocolate bars! You’ll find gifts for everyone this Christmas in no time. Check ’em out this Friday, November 28 from 8:00pm onwards and November 29, 12:00pm onwards. More information here!
Broadway Show: You Can’t Take It With You
Before anything else, the cast of this play includes James Earl Jones, so color us interested! This George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart classic comedy sees the eccentric Sycamore family. We’re talking xylophone players, snake collectors and candymakers (we’re down with this family!), except for their daughter, Alice. When she falls for a handsome young man and invites his parents over for dinner, it’s a recipe for disaster!
‘You Can’t Take it with You’ is currently playing at the Longacre Theatre, and is available this November 29 and 30 weekend, with shows in the afternoon and night. Get your tickets now, they’re selling fast!
