Martin Luther King Day: Celebrate with MLK’s Favorite Foods!

It’s the third Monday of January, so you know it’s Martin Luther King Day! This Monday, we reflect and remind ourselves of our duty to our society.

We also dedicate this day to a courageous human being, and take the time to appreciate the “soul foods” he loved too. We honor today with some awesome recipes for you to enjoy, right after you check this out to do your part in this Day of Service!

Skillet Fried Chicken

Nothing beats Southern fried chicken. It’s the ultimate comfort food, and we can go on for hours about whose grandma made the best fried chicken! The fried chicken is humble, yet thoroughly satisfying so it’s no wonder Dr. King loved it too. We love this fried chicken recipe, that calls for frying in a cast iron skillet. We promise all the spattering will be worth it! It’s tender, crisp and seriously juicy. You will need a batch for yourself!

If you’re not up for spattering oil, go with our buds at Brannon’s! Their team focuses on providing exceptional modern comfort foods, so you know you can trust in their Amazing Fried Chicken. Served with almond puree, spiced honey dipping sauce and sauteed kale, you can tell this one is a winner!

Bourbon Pecan Pie

A sweet treat that was a favorite of Dr. King was pecan pie, and we all know that’s probably the best pie filling ever! Our buds at Cutie Pies NYC are experts at the Bourbon Pecan Pie, in all its rich, buttery glory. Their version has a delectable caramelized filling, generously laden with gorgeous pecans laced with bourbon. Don’t forget that tantalizing signature flaky butter crust!

Have a great Day of Service today, everyone. Let’s take Dr. King’s actions and be inspired to do our part to make this world a better place!
