Diwali is a time for reflection, and to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. We say, it’s also a great time to feast on gorgeous dishes and treats!
Check out our picks, after the cut:
Laddu: The Ultimate Sweet Treat
It’s sweet, and has religious significance. What’s not to love about a ball of sweet goodness? It’s a great treat to prepare with your family, no matter what your beliefs are. Firmly mold the ingredients into a ball using the palms of your hand, and sweeten with flavored sugar syrup. Food52 has a great list of the many ways to prepare laddu, here!
For Those Going Vegetarian
Honor the Diwali spirit of going meatless with the king sandwich of Indian street food. Be prepared to be obsessed with The Bombay Sandwich! It’s a classic home recipe of potatoes spiced with dried mango powder, tomatoes, ginger, green chili and lime. Want a mashup? The Quinoa Chickpea Sandwich is quinoa mashed with chickpeas and veggies, seasoned with turmeric, fennel seeds, dried fenugreek leaves and garam masala. Top with Spicy Apple Chutney, and you’re good to go!
For Those Who Want a Burst of Fusion Flavors
What’s any celebration without amazing food to feast on? You won’t go wrong with Chal Chilli, a unique South Asian-Thai fusion restaurant! It’s all about creating audacious encounters, in a new and inventive way. Go with the Grilled Ginger Lamb Chops, or Shrimp Tamarind, served with tamarind chili sauce. Chal Chilli Fish is another must try, as the fish fillet is baked in banana leaf!
Chal Chilli has many vegetarian options, so check ’em out here.
Happy Diwali, folks!
